Friday October 16th

Today's period was all spent focused on World War I test review. The unit test is on MONDAY!

We went over the test outline and general notes on what to study. (see note below) Everyone did really well on the review game. Remember to study your notes over the weekend!

Unit Test Overview


Part A: Fill in the Blanks 6-8 marks
Part B: Multiple Choice 8-12 marks
Part C: Matching 8-10 marks
Part D: Map 14 marks
-label the countries in 1914 as well as London & Paris...and the Schlieffen Plan (exactly like the map we did at the beginning of the unit!)
Part E: Trench Diagram 15 marks
-will be given approx. 20 elements of a trench and you will have to include about 10 on the diagram
Part F: Paragraph Answers 30 marks
-choose 2-3 of 6 questions to answer
-general, big ideas we have talked about this unit (may include propaganda, conscription, pilots, the repercussions of the Treaty of Versailles, etc.)

-Causes of the War
-short term (the "spark") and long term causes
-members of Alliance & Entente
-Europe in 1914
-location of countries, as well as London and Paris
-the Schlieffen Plan’s route (where the frontline began)
-Technology
-including chemical warfare, tanks, Ross and Lee Enfield rifles
-Trench Warfare
-elements of a trench system
-Battles
-Somme, Passchendaele, Ypres, Vimy Ridge
-War in the Sea and Air
-pilots, Lusitania sinking (USA joining the war)
-The Homefront
-women’s roles, women’s rights gained
-Halifax Explosion
-Propaganda
-7 tricks, role it played, various things it was aimed at
-Conscription
-pros and cons, who was against it, who was for it
-Military Service Act, etc.
-Paris Peace Conference, Wilson’s 14 Points, Treaty of Versailles
-as well as leaders that played a large role
